Poplar as a term may seem abstract at first, but it holds a special place in our journey, and is an important part of the history of home. Greg, Rico, and Chuck--our co-founders--started the company in the garage of a home located on Poplar Street, Santa Clara in 2014. Poplar is a strong, versatile, and accessible wood and common tree in many neighborhoods around the world. A primary use of Poplar wood is in home furniture and basic construction. In these senses, Poplar Homes is a nod towards our roots, the essence of home, and the ideas we aim to build on in our mission.

The name, Poplar, was also a top selection after three rounds of elimination and voting by our employees, customers, and partners. You could say, it was a Poplar frontrunner.
